Susan Buckner, 'Grease' Actress Who Played Cheerleader Patty Simcox, Dead at 72

The film and television actress died last week in Miami, Florida.

Susan Buckner, a film and television actress best known for playing cheerleader Patty Simcox in Grease, has died at the age of 72, according to multiple reports.

"Susan died peacefully on May 2 surrounded by loved ones," publicist Melissa Berthier said in a statement to People. No cause of death was provided.

"The light she brought into every room will be missed forever," Buckner's daughter, Samantha Mansfield, also told the publication. "She was magic, and I was very lucky to call her my best friend."

The actress, who was born in Seattle, Washington, in 1952, got her start as a beauty queen. She won Miss Washington in 1971 and went on to place in the Top 10 in the 1972 Miss America pageant, tying for first in the swimsuit competition.

She appeared in various roles on film and television throughout the 1970s, with the role of plucky cheerleader Patty Simcox becoming her most memorable and recognizable. Buckner took a step back from acting in the 1980s to raise her family.

In addition to Grease, Buckner appeared on nine episodes of The Brady Bunch Hour, as a member of the synchronized swimming group The Krofftettes. She also had roles on B.J. and the Bear, The Love Boat, When the Whistle Blows and more.

Buckner is survived by Mansfield and her husband Adam, son Adam Josephs and his wife Noel, grandchildren Oliver, Riley, Abigail and Ruby, as well as her sister Linda and longtime partner Al.
